Welfare reform mitigations to continue under contingency plan

The mitigations were due to end on 31st March and had not been formally extended before that deadline.
This week, the DfC wrote to the Cliff Edge NI Coalition outlining interim measures to ensure that payments for all existing schemes will continue until legislation is brought forward to extend mitigations.
NIFHA is a member of the Cliff Edge NI Coalition working group. NIFHA Deputy Chief Executive Patrick Thompson welcomed the news, saying:
“Thousands of people who are already struggling to keep a roof over their heads faced the prospect of having to make up the shortfall in their rent, for example, if the mitigation payments ended.
“NIFHA welcomes the interim measures, which will ensure that these people continue to be supported.”
