Fun Day celebrates opening of Radius Housing’s new homes at Fort Development

Eileen Patterson, Director of Housing, Robert Holt, Housing Officer, Angela Knowles with daughter Grace and Mayor of Ards & North Down, Cllr Robert Adair. Radius Housing celebrated the completion of their new homes at their Fort development in the Rathgill area of Bangor with a Family Fun Day which brought the community together for some summer fun.

Sheila Taylor, Area Housing Manager, Radius Housing said, “At Radius, we are in the business of not only building homes, but communities. The Family Fun Day, held on the green area outside Fort Terrace, was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the completion of Radius Housing’s 102 high quality homes designed for families of varying sizes and including wheelchair accessible homes.

“Thankfully the weather held and we had a great turn out from the families and local community representatives for our Fort Family Fun Day.Guests enjoyed Punch and Judy and magic shows as well as getting the opportunity to see exotic animals such as a snake, a bearded lizard and baby hedgehogs in a small petting zoo. “Our younger guest enjoyed face painting, balloon modelling, bouncy castle, games on the green and the party bus, as well as visits from Ards & North Down District Council Recycling Team, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and PSNI teams who attended with their vehicles to the delight of the children. The event concluded with a BBQ and ice cream served from an old fashioned bicycle cart.”

The build reflects the needs of families currently on the NIHE waiting list for the Bangor area.  We believe this exciting development will be of great community benefit.  These new modern homes meet the requirements of the DFC Housing Association Design Guide (including Lifetime Homes and Secure by Design principles) they were also designed to meet the current enhanced building control regulations which has an emphasis on increased insulation, which will help to reduce energy bills along with helping to address fuel poverty issues.

Special thanks to Cllr Robert Adair, Mayor of Ards & and North Down District Council, Cllr Noelle Robinson, Cllr Alastair Cathcart and Pastor Kenneth White who attended the event and kindly allowed us to use the Church of Nazarene facilities.
